Confusion over new speed limits on the N25 is continuing to frustrate motorists, with unclear signage leading to fines since changes were introduced last November.
Councillor Fidelis Doherty says problems remain, especially on the eastern approach from Glenmore towards Waterford, where it’s unclear where the static speed camera is picking up motorists speeding.
Kilkenny County Council and TII are now carrying out a detailed review, with possible changes to speed zones and signage to improve clarity and safety.
The Fine Gael councillor says better signage is needed, “There’s definitely something that needs to be addressed there and for all this ambiguity to be just wiped away. It is crystal clear, in such a length of time, you will be coming into that 80km zone where you’re likely to be picked up, so it’s 50 metres from the static cameras where you’re actually recorded at. But you can’t go from 100 down to 80 just like that. There has to be that good lead-in period that it’s safe to do so. And that’s what this is all about.”
