Over €340,000 has been awarded to four procjects in our locality from the Government’s Historic Structures Fund.

It’s as Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, and Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD, have announced funding for 40 projects across Ireland which will benefit from €4.42million in HSF funding.
Two Kilkenny projects to benefit from Historic Structures Fund are:

  • Woodstock House, Inistioge – €125,458 for works to secure the collapsed central section of the front elevation and missing internal walls.
  • Former Bishop’s Palace, Church Lane, Kilkenny City – €50,000 for the conservation and repair of historic timber sash and case windows.

While Two Carlow projects to benefit are:

  • Duckett’s Grove, Rainestown – €91,558 for lime rendering to store building and castellated stable building, replacement of windows and a door
  • Tullow Courthouse, Barrack Street, Tullow – €73,280 for external works including removal of cementious pointing and render and replacement in lime mortar along with internal works including heating system insulation and fire-protective measures.

Speaking to KCLR News’ Dermot Keyes, Carlow County Council Heritage Officer Dr Eoin Sullivan says this funding is a lifeline for protected structures.

“In terms of Tullow Courthouse, it’s to make the building resilient against the ravages of climate change into the future.”

“For Duckett’s Grove, it’s absolutely brilliant. It gives us an opportunity to look at portions of Duckett’s Grove and to kind of address how we might, enhance the character of that structure. So it’s really, really welcome.”
