Funding of more than €1.6 million has been allocated to support flood relief measures in Carlow and Kilkenny.
Fianna Fáil TD John McGuinness says €1.13 million will go to Kilkenny County Council for interim works in areas worst affected by flooding while Carlow Council will get over €483,000.
The measures are expected to be delivered before the end of the year.
Deputy McGuinness says proposals were submitted by local authorities and approved as part of a wider package by government.
“The council then will get this funding before the end of this year, whenever they require it, and that will enable them to put the projects in place, and to establish these interim schemes.”
“The council, I think, are happy with the sum that they have received. It’s the total amount they’ve asked for and we’ll see what the other details are as the scheme is announced during the afternoon.”
