A local TD has welcomed the arrival of two new Garda members to the Carlow-Kilkenny region but says more investment is urgently needed to boost overall numbers.
John McGuinness met with Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan and local Superintendent Sean O’Meara with discussions focused on supporting Ossory Youth programmes and strengthening links between Gardaí and community services.
He says Garda numbers are still too low, particularly with growing populations due to tourism and events, and raised concerns about reduced rural coverage and station closures.
Deputy McGuinness says he will push for more resources,
“I look forward to working with them to achieve what is needed and what is required in local communities. Each community, by the way, will have its own demands and they need to be examined and fulfilled.”
