International students in Carlow are helping the county go green.
A group from SETU teamed up with the County Council and local charity shops to find new ways to cut down on textile waste.
Sixteen fourth-year students took part in the project, looking at how we can all shop more sustainably.
Four of those students were recently invited into the Council Chambers to present their ideas and pick up prizes for their work.
Climate Action Coordinator Jannette O’Brien says the group was a perfect fit for the project.
“They have different practices in their own countries, they have different attitudes towards pre-loved textiles, some of them had a really good understanding of what happens when textiles are dumped or discarded or the international provinces with with lack of textile recycling and reuse.” said Janette.
“Each of the students then picked a different country and they looked at the methods that were in place over there and the governance and the laws that were in place over there around textile recycling and then they compared it to Ireland and they actually compared it to their own country as well.” she added.
