Additional seating and public space improvements have been proposed for the Peace Park and War Memorial area in Kilkenny.
Independent Councillor Eugene McGuinness says the area has become an important place for peaceful reflection particularly following recent Anzac Day ceremonies.
He is calling for expanded seating, improved public amenities and appropriate CCTV coverage as part of future development plans linked to the nearby brewery site project.
Cllr. McGuinness told KCLR; “There’s an awful lot of people like these things and I mean particulary at this time in world affairs when you have the likes of the Ukrainian war, so many young and innocent lives being taken, I mean it’s absolutely dreadful, it would appear that mankind have learned absolutely nothing, but when you sit down there and you look at that wall and you see effectively children, you can’t help but look at the names and the ages of some of those kids and then you think of your own children”.
Meanwhile, see the update on the new seating installed elsewhere in the city.
