Farm safety concerns are back in focus as Tractor Safety Week continues during the busy silage season.
New figures show 38 people have died in tractor-related accidents over the past decade, with questions now being raised over whether 16 is too young to legally drive heavy agricultural machinery on Irish roads.
Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are also being urged to take extra care on rural routes as farm activity increases.
Carlow woman and Deputy President of the IFA Alice Doyle says the age is ok once the person gets training from farmers or contractors.
