Pressure on housing in Carlow has prompted calls to repurpose a local guest house for homeless accommodation.
The facility, currently housing Ukrainian residents, is due to come to the end of its contract.
With more than 700 already on the housing list and numbers expected to rise, it’s suggested the building could help ease demand on existing homeless services.
Cllr. Andrea Dalton brought the issue up at the town municipal district’s most recent meeting and told KCLR News; “The Council are great working with them, I’ve worked with many families facing homelessness, we don’t have families on our streets but still a really, really stressful time for anyone who’s had a notice to quit and has to find rented accommodation because it’s at a premium and it’s really difficult to find”.
