Support for staff and students of Carlow College St Patrick’s will be shown this Sunday following the announcement that the institution is to close.
A lunchtime gathering’s planned at its gates with attendees set to march to the town fountain.
It’s ahead of next week’s Oireachtas Committee hearing into the closure where staff representatives will seek answers and call for improved redundancy terms, redeployment opportunities and guarantees for current students.
Councillor Adrienne Wallace told KCLR News; “This is the single biggest mass redundancy in recent times and honestly it has echoes of the closure of the Sugar Factory, which was obviously an important and valuable hub for the whole area and the lasting effects of that closure are still being felt today”.
