CK United held an official launched and an open training session at SETU Carlow last night as preparations continue for their historic debut in senior football.
The club will begin their inaugural FAI National League campaign at home to Newbridge Town on August 29th, before travelling to Celtic Park in Kerry to face Killarney Celtic on September 12th.
It has been a busy off-season for manager Tom O’Connor, with the club being built from the ground up ahead of their first competitive season.
Speaking to KCLR at last night’s launch, O’Connor admitted it has been a challenging few months but says excitement is now building around the club.
“It’s been a tough off-season. I’ve said a couple of times, anybody who’s ever been in this position, I wouldn’t envy them, you know, starting a team from scratch.
“It’s been difficult, but now, you’ve watched the session, there’s a lot of buzz amongst the lads. They’re looking forward to making it, as you say, real.
“There is that excitement from everybody, not just from me, but there’s a few people here tonight watching and that, so I think the buzz is starting to come around.”
With the official launch now complete, attention turns towards getting the squad ready for their opening National League fixture later this month.
The historic first season for CK United is almost here.
