A ‘significant milestone’ has been reached for the Ballyhale Flood Relief Scheme.
Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran yesterday (Thursday, 10th Sept) attended a contract signing at Kilkenny’s County Hall, marking the progression of the project to construction stage.
It follows the completion of detailed design and procurement and means construction can now start with works to be carried out by Glas Civil Engineering Ltd.
A spokesperson for the office of public works adds; “This important milestone follows extensive planning, design and engagement with the local community and stakeholders.
Sinn Féin Deputy Natasha Newsome Drennan while speaking to KCLR News’ Martin Quilty says it’ll be of huge benefit to Ballyhale, noting; “I suppose with the coffee shop closing and I see the council’s been out to go do a little bit of work there, so we need to get that opened as well but also we have some derelict houses in the street in Ballyhale and I understand that people don’t want to put work into houses because of the floods that were there so like please God this will revive Ballyhale please GOd in the near future and, yeah, let’s get some businesses back opened in the heart of the street”.
