Concerns are mounting over the proposed amalgamation of Gaelic games as continued delays could push female players away from the sport.

Speaking on KCLR’s Saturday Show, the Kilkenny woman warned that the current impasse risks leaving volunteers and players thoroughly disillusioned…
“I’ve had a lot of people come to me this week and say, ‘You know what? I’m done. I’m just going to go down to the hockey pitch, I’m going to go down to the soccer field and just sign up there instead.’
“It’s just left a bad taste in people’s mouths, especially after Katie Taylor’s fight in Croke Park, and just the irony of women feeling like what Mary McAleese said was a slap in the face three days later. It’s left a lot of people disillusioned, disheartened.”
“When you ask me if there’s a reticence there, I think they’ve made it very obvious that there’s a reticence there because, you know, when there’s a willingness there, it will happen. I feel like the willingness was lacking, and they were afraid to say that up until now.”
