A Carlow councillor says there are multiple concerns surrounding a proposed biogas facility in Milford.
Cllr. Daniel Pender raised the issue at a recent meeting, highlighting questions around who may operate the facility.
Cllr. Pender said the application went directly to An Coimisiún Pleanála, rather than through local authority, leaving residents in the area unaware of the plans.
The Fianna Fail rep says concerns include ownership of the facility changing hands, with questions around commitments made during the planning process being maintained.
“One of the key concerns I have about these kinds of projects is that this could be something that is, simply, they apply for planning permission and the promises that are made to local people are not followed through on, simply because someone else comes in to develop it, or that it is built and then sold on to someone else.”
“A lot of constituents were unaware of public consultation that was ongoing, and primarily their concerns are around the odor as well as health and safety concerns,” he added
