Tonight was a lovely way to kick off the June shows.
Up first were local art students Olivia and Mike. Their first time on radio, or seeing inside a radio station, we’d a lovely chat about everything they’ve been getting up to at KCAT this year. Both first year students of KCAT’s two-year FETAC level 5 arts course, they, along with every KCAT student and participant this past year will have a piece on display from Friday through Wednesday as part of the KCAT end of year show. Husband and wife Sean and Kerry Hardie popped into studio for a chat about what they’ve been getting up to of late. Sean started his lengthy career in the media with the BBC in the late 60s working in current affairs before moving into comedy and entertainment, eventually winding up locally in Skeogh. This weekend as part of Éigse, he’ll be in conversation on stage with John Lloyd with who he co-created and produced Not The Nine O’Clock News some 30 years ago.
Kerrie read some pieces from her latest poetry publication, The Ash and the Oak and the Wild Cherry Tree. On Saturday coming at 1.30pm she’ll be accompanied by David Power on uileann pipes and introduced by fellow poet Gerry Smyth for a reading at the Borris House Hay Festival, immediately followed by a reception to launch of Kerry’s book, to which all are welcome.

Joining me on the phone was Aideen Wylde of Cork theatre company Cheery Wild Productions. On Saturday night they’ll bring the award-winning Love All to the Watergate stage in Kilkenny, combining all things love, murder and tennis.
I was hoping to speak with Dennis Roche as well tonight but we’ll catch up with him next week when we go live from the Carlow studio and bring you more news on Carlow Arts Festival Éigse.
