Over 23, 000 penalty points handed out in Carlow and Kilkenny last year

New figures released by the Gardai reveal that almost 1 in 5 vehicle people killed on the roads in 2013 were not wearing their seatbelt.

This was announced at the launch of the St Patrick’s Weekend Road Safety Campaign which will see a big Garda presence this weekend to clamp down on non-wearing of seatbelts.

In Carlow last year, 9158 penalty points were issued while it was 14 708 in Kilkenny.

Over 11 thousand points in Kilkenny were for speeding and it was just over 7 thousand in Carlow.
