Sod turned on brand new Whiskey Distillery in Royal Oak in Carlow

The first distillery in Ireland in over 200 years is being built-in Carlow.

Walsh Whiskey is building a brand new distillery in Royal Oak and turned the first sod on the site today.

It’s going to the first distillery in Ireland producing all three styles of whiskey, pot, malt and grain and will be the largest independent craft distillery in the country.

It will create 50 new jobs when it’s built and over 40 jobs during its construction which starts next Monday.

The distillery itself is being built on the grounds of the 18th century Holloden House which will be restored and will be included as part of the visitors centre.
