Record numbers turn out to protest against water charges in Kilkenny and Carlow on Saturday afternoon

Up to 2,000 protesters turned out to protest against water charges in Kilkenny on Saturday afternoon.

In Carlow estimates of more than 3,500 protesters turned out to demonstrate their opposition to the new charges.

More than 90 rallies got under way around the country.

The Right 2 Water campaign is the largest public demonstration in the lifetime of this Government.

Over hundred thousand people took part in protest rallies up and down the country yesterday calling for the new charge to be scrapped.
