Carlow company launch new Internet domain name, ‘.irish’

A new internet domain name is being launched today by Carlow company, Blacknight Solutions.

From today the ‘dot Irish’ domain name will be open for business, first to trademark holding individuals or businesses and then to everyone else.

The company says they are hoping to aim the domain at the global Irish community .

Chief executive, Michele Neylon says that because there can only be one, for example, www.murphy.com, Irish companies might find the web address they want with .com or .ie. has already been taken.

As of today, .irish is completely blank so every web address is available.
