Major fire on Barrack Street, Carlow

Emergency services in Carlow town are dealing with a blaze in a retail unit on Barrack Street in Carlow this afternoon.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the Barrack Street and Tullow Street areas while the blaze is tackled.

From the image above, via Emergency Times on Twitter, we can see the blaze on the top floor of the unit. A cause for the outbreak has not yet been determined.

Our reporter MaryAnn Vaughan was at the scene at 6pm with this report.

As we understand it, units from Carlow, Bagenalstown and Tullow are involved in tackling the blaze. Our news team at the scene have these images of the fire being brought under control.
