Over 1,500 tonnes of glass were collected in Carlow and Kilkenny in just the first 8 months of this year.
However both counties are still below the national average when it comes to recycling.
This week is Repak Recycling Week and figures released by Rehab Glassco show that recycling is now routine practice for householders across the two counties.
In Carlow an average of 53 glass bottles and jars were recycled per head of population in the first 8 months of this year with 580 tonnes of glass collected in the county for recycling.
Meanwhile 980 tonnes was collected in Kilkenny and 54 bottles and jars were recycled per capita.
The busiest recycling site in Carlow was Askea Church in Carlow Town with 92 tonnes gathered and in Kilkenny it was Newpark Shopping Centre with 68 tonnes.
Despite the this however, both counties are just below the national average of 55 recycled bottles and jars per person so far in 2015.
