I couldn’t think of a finer way to kick off tonight’s show than with Siobhan Armstrong (IRL), Ann Heymann (USA) and Talitha MacKenzie (SCO), all of who were studio for a chat about the Scoil na gClairseach — Summer School of Early Irish Harp, taking place all this week and their Music Fit For A King concert performance this coming Thursday night at St. Patrick’s church in Kilkenny which also features Andrew Laurence-King and Éamonn Ó Bróithe.
They arrived for The Arts Show, left the lot of us mesmerised by their music (I don’t think I’ve ever seen an early Irish harp performed live, never mind a pair of them) and they also managed to squeeze in some recordings for one of Martin Bridgeman’s shows this weekend – and go home with a MacBook Pro fixed, which in turn guarantees me some future in studio performances – not a bad evening’s work in fairness.
A lovely bunch who are as talented as they are passionate about the instruments and the music. They’ve cut the price of their tickets for this year in comparison to last year and between harp recitals, sean nós singing, mouth music and latin singing, there’s a world of music up for experiencing on Thursday.
