A local historian says a huge chapter in Carlows history has gone with the passing of John Alexander from Milford House.
He was the last link of one of the remaining few gentry’ families in the county and his family pioneered the generation of electricity and sale of it to towns and cities.
He will be laid to rest after 2.30 mass today in Cloydagh Church in the adjoining church yard.
Local historian Dr Shay Kinsella says John loved to share the stories of his family who had really put Carlow on the map in terms of the roll out of electricity.
They had a hydro generator which was used in the 1800’s to bring electricity to Carlow town.
