Leighlinbridge’s Garda Station should be operating once again by this time next year – that’s according to local councillor Michael Doran who’s been given an update.
The OPW own the station building which was shut down in 2013 along with a number of others in the locality.
Funding has already been granted for the refurbishment works and they will now get underway in quarter three of this year.
Last week officials from the OPW & An Garda Siochana were on site, both in Leighlinbridge & other stations in the locality to see how best to progress the project.
Speaking to KCLR News Cllr Doran said “I’m pleased that it is progressing & that the station will reopen imminently”.
He adds “a lot of criminal activity relies on the motorway for a quick escape. And only recently we had a car stolen around the village & I think it was found in Dublin. It shows how vulnerable communities are near motorways”.
