Ten people are understood to have died in the Californian wildfires while some living there from the Carlow Kilkenny area are safe.
KCLR News has been in touch with a number of locals who’ve made Los Angeles their home and they’ve described devastating scenes noting in particular how fast the fires spread, some areas likened to ‘warzones’.
Another blaze broke out overnight, which police are understood to be investigating as potential arson.
Tens of thousands of acres are burning, with criticism too of a lack of preparedness.
LA County Sheriff Robert Luna is urging those in high risk areas to evacuate when requested to do so.
But so far, those from our part of the world who we’ve heard from say they’re doing okay and are safe.
By luck, Music Producer Brian Sheil, who was among the Irish jury for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest and who’s worked with some well-known names, had extended his Christmas break at home in Carlow so hasn’t been caught up in the wildfires, but he’s been outlining what those in the area affected have been telling him and how he has to reconsider his return given the potential health issues that could present;
