A woman was injured in an armed robbery at Urlingford Post Office this afternoon.
A number of masked men entered the post office shortly after 12 o’clock, threatened staff and left a short time later with a substanial amount of cash. A female member of staff received minor injuries.
Gardaí from Kilkenny and surrounding districts set up a number of road blocks and stopped a car travelling on the Urlingford to Freshford road and arrested three men aged in their mid 20s.
In a number of follow up searches, a car was discovered burned out, at Ardragh, Urlingford. A fourth man, aged in his 40s was arrested in Kilkenny City at around 4 o’clock. Approximately 16 thousand euro was recovered during the arrests and subsequent searches.
The four men are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Kilkenny, Thomastown and Carlow Garda stations.
