Calls for Irish Troops to be celebrated on their return home

It remains to be seen whether our troops in Syria will return home or be asked to extend their stay.

130 soliders – most of them from James Stephens Barracks in Kilkenny are based in the Golan Heights at the moment – 7 of them from Carlow and 16 from Kilkenny.

They’ve come in for praise for their part in the rescue of 35 Filipino soldiers captured by Syrian rebels.

Tom Clonan, security analyst with the Irish Times says they should be celebrated on their return.
