Carlow councillor questions if local authorities are setting the bar too high by building only the highest spec homes

Local authorities are setting the bar too high by building only the highest spec homes.

That’s the view of Fine Gael Cllr Michael Doran who questioned whether building “perfect homes” may be slowing down the council when it comes to construction.

The Leighlinbridge councillor says he is not suggesting building “draughty homes” but he says most people can live in a “B-rated home”.

Meanwhile, Cllr Will Paton highlighted how he’s been informed of a situation where a householder had a Council mortgage and then had a tenant who applied for the Housing Assistance Payment within the same house.

He described the situation as baffling.
