Carlow’s most senior Garda says when crime rises so too does his team’s response.
It’s as concern has been raised among the public locally following a spate of incidents recently, some of them with the threat of violence.
But Gardaí are adamant they’re doing what they can – just this week one person was arrested in connection with the robbery of two betting shops.
Superintendent Anthony Farrell is moving to allay fears, telling KCLR News; “Crime fluctuates, by nature of any increase in crime be it big or small this guides a Garda response, as part of our Garda response here in Carlow checkpoints and patrols will continue to take place, particularly in areas affected by crimes to supplement our local resources, checkpoints and controls I’ve requested support from regional uniform units especially during hours of darkness to saturate targeted areas and areas most affected by crime”.
Supt Farrell says people can also play a part in safekeeping items, adding; “I would ask from a crime prevention perspective that people be conscious of protecting their property; ensure houses are secured especially when vacant, don’t leave property visible especially with valuable property in your car, garden, around your house, ensure sheds and outhouses are locked and maybe check in to ensure any elderly or vulnerable person in your area is safe”.
