Concerns for a local family in need of mental health supports have been raised in the Dáil.
During his speech on International Women’s Day, Deputy John McGuinness commented on the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and waiting lists for those seeking help from a child psychiatrist.
Deputy McGuinness outlined the plight he witnessed in one Kilkenny house this week, noting; “I could only try and support them and sympathise with them as best I could but all they want to do is for the child to be seen by a child psychiatrist and they’ve been refused that, they’ve been refused it, and the Doctor is imploring the HSE and CAHMS to see the child and this is going back since before 2023, now the parents are there but there’s a woman at the heart of the home, if we’re talking about women, and she is crying out for assistance”.
He added “She is marked from the physical interaction with that child” and said “This family and other families like it they need to be seen immediately”.
