Carlow & Kilkenny trainers, jockeys & racing fans descend on Cheltenham

It’s a big date on the horse racing calendar as a number of locals settle in for Cheltenham.

The four-day event sees many travel to the UK, among them a number of well-known trainers & jockeys.

Willie Mullins holds the best record in Carlow or Kilkenny – the Closutton man to date has 61 victories, 7 of them last year alone.

Piltown’s Joseph O’Brien is bidding for his first winner there while Tom Mullins from Goresbridge has two already in the can. His son David with cousins Danny & Patrick are among the jockeys vying for a win.

Katie O’Farrell from Kilmoganny rides out for Gordon Elliot & Willie Mullins – she landed in Cheltenham on Sunday hopeful of a ride at the event and confirmed to KCLR last evening that she will ride the Willie Mullins trained Caile du Mesnil at 2:50pm on Wednesday.

Gowran Park’s Eddie Scally is in Cheltenham & will be updating us each evening on The Way It Is. He says though the forecast for today’s not great, he’s looking forward to the off.
