With their Leinster Senior Football Championship opener against Meath on the horizon, the players have issued a statement to clarify their position and address speculation surrounding the situation.

Carlow Players’ Statement

In a five-point statement, the Carlow squad emphasized that player-related issues were not to blame for the exit of the management team. They expressed disappointment that their commitment had been called into question and outlined ongoing concerns about the team’s training environment.

Key Points from the Statement:

The players stressed that their focus should be on preparing for their championship clash with Meath on April 6th, rather than dealing with controversy.

They refuted claims that player-related issues caused the management’s departure, stating that this narrative has unfairly questioned their dedication.

The squad had voiced concerns over the organization and training environment throughout the league, with some players opting out and a selector stepping away from the setup as a result.

Reports of players staying in London after a game had been used to suggest a lack of commitment. However, the players clarified that this arrangement was pre-agreed with management and should not be used to deflect from other issues.

The panel stated they had initially chosen not to make a public statement but felt compelled to respond as their commitment and character were unfairly criticized. They reaffirmed their dedication to representing Carlow with pride and respect, while also extending best wishes to the former management team.

Uncertainty Over New Management

While the players have made their position clear, there remains uncertainty over who will lead Carlow into their Leinster Championship clash against Meath in Navan on April 6th. Carlow GAA has yet to confirm an interim manager.

Outgoing Management’s Statement

On Wednesday night, Carlow GAA released a statement confirming the departure of Curran and his backroom team. The statement cited ‘player-related issues’ as the reason for the decision, with Carlow GAA now actively seeking a replacement.

“Shane Curran has informed Carlow GAA that he and his backroom team are stepping away from the management of the Carlow Senior Football Team with immediate effect. This decision was based on player-related issues which he believed were beyond the scope of the management team.”

“Carlow GAA are in the process of looking for an interim Senior Football Manager for the Championship Season.”

What’s Next for Carlow?

With championship preparations disrupted, Carlow players will now look to put this saga behind them and turn their focus toward their crucial meeting with Meath, who have thier own issues as both Joe McMahon and Martin Corey have left the management team.
