Carlow/Kilkenny GRA spokesperson says Garda force needs to recruit more ethnic minorities

“We haven’t been as open as we should.”

The words of the local Garda Representative Association spokesperson as figures this month have revealed there are no members in the force from the African or Caribbean communities.

Ger Comerford says the revelations about a lack of diversity might serve as a wake-up call for Garda HQ and might be included in a review of the future of policing that’s underway.

Speaking to KCLR News, he says the force at the moment isn’t reflecting all the people that they serve.
