Concerns have been raised over an increase in begging in Kilkenny City.
Councillor David Fitzgerald who brought the issue before the latest Local Community Safety Partnership gathering says members of the public and businesses have reported incidents, particularly at the Market Yard payment kiosk.
He says Gardaí have confirmed begging is prohibited at ATMs and financial transaction points, and outside open businesses.
Cllr. Fitzgerald also claims organised groups are bringing people to the city to beg he wants Gardaí to enforce the legislation.
