The rate of births by c-section in St Lukes is a ‘little bit too high’ and something that needs to be looked at.
So says a consultant obstetrician at the hospital after figures obtained by the Association for Improvements in Maternity Services show half of the babies born in our local hospital in a month arrived by caesarean section.
Professor Ray O Sullivan told KCLR Live today that at the end of 2016 they realised that forty percent of deliveries had been caesarean and said “that was higher than even we’d anticipated”.
He said its something they are definitely going to have to look at and make some inroads into.
