Copper thieves caused damage to vital telecommunications mast

It’s been revealed that damage was caused to a telecommunications mast just outside Carlow over Christmas.

The mast at Rossmore in Killeshin suffered structural damage after thieves removed the copper from it.

Engineers in Carlow County Council say that their IT section acted quickly , along with the local emergency services, to fix the damage as the mast is critical for their communications system.

The insulation – which makes sure the structure is safe in the event of a lightning strike – has now been replaced.
