A special fundraising event held over the weekend showed just how much talent Leighlinbridge has, and what they can do when they channel it.
Those of the area formed a committee which pulled in the skills of Lipsync Battles Ireland to help with their aim of raising significant funds which would subsequently help secure further financial support to expand their sporting complex, The Superbowl.
Plan is to include a range of additional facilities which would be available to those not just in Leighlinbridge, Old Leighlin and Ballinabranna but also the rest of the county in a community hub.
From that ‘Superbowl Goes to Hollywood’ was born and KCLR attended its launch last September where those gathered heard how volunteers would form a number of groupings, each of which would prepare and film their take on a well-known film or TV piece while setting up their own funding streams.
It culminated in Saturday night’s sold-out event for which 620 tickets were bought by those seeking to attend the screenings and award ceremony.
Seven films were shown with an audience vote deciding the People’s Choice winner while the Highest Grossing category was determined by the funds the team behind it raised and ten other prizes were awarded by a judging panel of Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, Deputy Catherine Callaghan, soccer star Pádraig Amond, Music Educator Ann Minchin Brolly and KCLR’s Edwina Grace.

A tough job given the level of talent but really enjoyed being part of the judging panel @woodforddolmen in #Carlow for ‘Superbowl Goes to Hollywood’ with Lipsync Battles Ireland in aid of @NaomhbridHC & @valewfc pic.twitter.com/Fn6V27gZWN
