Supporters of Carlow College, St Patrick’s will gather this lunchtime in a renewed show of solidarity with staff and students following the announcement that the historic institution is to close.
Meeting at the college gates at 1pm, aim is to march to the town fountain.
The demonstration comes ahead of next week’s Oireachtas Committee hearing, where staff representatives will seek answers on the planned closure, improved redundancy terms, redeployment opportunities and assurances for current students.
The college announced earlier this year that it will wind down its operations, with no new student intake and a phased closure by 2028 as it falls under the South East Technological University.
Councillor Adrienne Wallace says the closure represents one of the biggest redundancy situations the county has seen in recent years and is urging the public to show their support.
