Old Books

Old books don’t just tell old stories, they are also physical representations of the past – like the Liber Primus, the book that recorded the day to day administration of Kilkenny city way back in 1200s. Some people, like Joe Doyle collect and sell books – some older than others. Joe is based in Thomastown and sells his books online. He buys some of his books at auction, sometimes at Mealy’s Auction House in Castlecomer. George Mealy talks about some of the valuable books that have passed through his hands and why some books become valuable in the first place.
