Dr Patricia Mulcahy has been re-appointed as the President of IT Carlow for another five-year term.
The announcement was made by the Governing body of the local Institute yesterday.
Dr Mulcahy was first appointed to the post in January 2012 – and her next term officially begins in January 2017.
Under her tenure, the Institute has seen a 100 million euro capital development programme.
These include the Dargan Centre, the Centre for aerospace engineering, the recently-opened Haughton Building and a multi-million facility for sports, health and student services.
Dr Mulcahy was also a driving force behind plans announced for a new 30 acre South Campus and is described as a “major champion” of a technological university for the South East.
A native of Carlow, she is an eminent scientist in the field of bioscience research, and she is widely published in major international journals.
