Dunnes Stores has agreed to meet with Kilkenny County Council officials and discuss the future of Ferrybank Shopping Centre.
Built in 2008, the premises has been largely vacant since then with just the local library and council area office in operation on site.
There’s long been a bid to engage the anchor tenant, the latest seeing the local authority last month contacting the Irish retail giant asking them to engage with the draft development and retail plan for the area.
At this week’s Piltown municipal district meeting councillors were told a response was in as Cllr Ger Frisby outlines; “Dunnes had responded in what is considered a positive manner and Planning will now arrange to meet with Dunnes Stores to discuss the draft master plan including the retail strategy and including Dunnes Stores’ proposals for the Ferrybank Shopping Centre”.
