Thousands of carers across Ireland are in crisis.
That’s according to Family Carers Ireland as their annual National Respite Weekend gets underway today.
In the region of 300 carers are taking part in the weekend away in Wexford but many more are missing out because they have no option of respite for the people they’re caring for.
Catherine Cox of Family Carers Ireland told KCLR News carers of children with special needs in the Carlow/Kilkenny area are struggling because an overnight respite service isn’t available yet.
