Carlow’s Jennifer Murnane O’Connor says rural Ireland will be dealt another blow with proposed post office closures.
It follows reports that An Post plans to close at least 80 branches nationwide and possibly up to 200- in an effort to cut costs at the company. A protest is being planned for outside the GPO in Dublin tomorrow.
According to Senator Murnane O’Connor, those closures are being pin-pointed for rural areas – including some in Carlow and Kilkenny.
However, that’s not the only proposed closure on the cards with news that a number of Ulster bank branches are also set to go.
