The Fianna Fáil leader says their performance in last year’s local elections gives them a platform for the next general election.
The party is hoping to steal back one seat even before that as they bid to get Bobby Aylward back into the Dáil in May’s by-election.
Micheál Martin is in Kilkenny today to help canvass for votes.
He says the gains made on councils around the country last summer gives him heart for next year.
