It was a controversial journey to say the least but IT Carlow’s Fitzgibbon Cup campaign has come to an end.
DJ Careys charges bowed out of the competition yesterday after losing out to Limerick IT in the quarter finals by 1-15 to 14 points.
Their place in the last 8 was called into question by Mary Immaculate last week and the Limerick college were briefly re-instated into the competition after alleging that Carlow had fielded an illegal player.
An appeal by IT Carlow was upheld and the local college took its rightful place in the quarter finals yesterday despite an 11th hour bid by Mary I to get back in.
A strong performace by Limerick IT saw it all end yesterday and DJ Carey admitted afterwards that they had been beaten by a better side.
