Former IFA President John Bryan will be seeking the Fine Gael nomination for the Carlow-Kilkenny by-election in May.
He will go up against Senator Pat O’ Neill and Councillor David Fitzgerald – the only others to declare so far – when the party holds its selection convention in the coming weeks.
The Inistioge farmer said he had been mulling over the idea for some time but his attendance at local Fine Gael meetings seemed to all but confirm his intentions.
This morning he confirmed to Sue Nunn on KCLR that he will be putting his name forward for selection at convention in March.
He said a strong candidate is needed and he has given it a lot of consideration, speaking to people in all parts of the constituency to see if the level of support he will require is there.
