GAA to clarify guidelines on hurling penalties & close-range frees before weekend

pauldemody_CroppedThe GAA is to clarify guidelines  on the taking of penalties and close-range frees in hurling.

Last Sunday’s Munster quarter-final replay between Cork and Waterford  created fresh controversy after Waterford goalkeeper Stephen O’Keeffe rushed off his line to block a penalty attempt from his counter-part, Anthony Nash.

The GAA says that their Management Committee will now recommend an interpretation of the rules to Central Council with the changes to be in place ahead of next weekend’s games.

However Kildare hurling goalkeeper & Kilkenny man Paul Dermody says he has no issues with Nash’s style of penalty taking

The Graigue-Ballycallan man scored a goal from a penalty himself in last Saturday’s Christy Ring Cup Final victory over Kerry and he told KCLR on last nights Monday Night Sport Show that he hopes the GAA don’t change the current penalty rule.
