A number of local people have been hit by what’s been described as Sextortion attempts.
Gardaí in Kilkenny are keen to hear from anybody who may have been similarly affected.
They’ve had three separate reports from across the county in the past week alone.
Garda Andy Neill has told KCLR News; “In all three cases people had supplied or sent explicit images of themselves to a person who they believed to be someone else and also believed to be someone that they could trust, they were subsequently blackmailed for a payment, this could be demanded by Revolut or indeed any other method”.
He warns; “Be extremely careful of the sending of any image where you only know the recipient through online interaction, these cases are being treated with the utmost seriousness”.
