Gardaí­ say the figures from last weekends road safety campaign are very disappointing

The bank holiday weekend road safety campaign has made for bleak reading.

There were 3 road deaths, 15 serious collisions that resulted in a number of people receiving serious and life-threatening injuries.

218 arrests for driving under the influence of an intoxicant for locally with 3 in Kilkenny and 1 in Carlow.

2,150 drivers were detected speeding with more than 40 arrests made for dangerous driving, with 2 females were clocked doing 151km/hr on the M9 motorway and were fined.

Fines were issued to 209 drivers using their mobile phone, 200 Unaccompanied learner drivers, 75 for no seatbelt and over 375 for having no tax or insurance 19 cars were seized in the Carlow/Kilkenny division.
