Gardaí are warning homeowners to secure their home heating oil.

Local Garda Andy Neill has warned that thefts are expected to rise as the evenings get darker and colder.

“We’re getting into the darker evenings. Since the budget, I looked at the price of fuel and it’s not got any nicer. So your home heating oil, watch out. Really, we’re telling people watch out for thefts of home heating oil,” he said.
