Motorists are being reminded to ensure that their vehicles meet regulatory standards.
So far this year, 139 people have been killed on Irish roads – 11 of them in our locality – and Gardai are warning all necessary precautions need to be taken as we head into the more difficult winter period.
Following on from Road Safety Week, Garda Andy Neill outlines some common issues to look out for, telling KCLR News; “The most obvious defects being bald or badly damaged tyres, these can contribute to serious injury collisions or worse and there obviously, in such cases, fines and penalty points are issued”.
He adds “So we’d ask people to check their tyres, we’re going into the winter season, indeed check their vehicles properly for all safety items including lights, tyres and make sure your NCT is proper and in date”.
